Tattoos need proper aftercare to stay looking their best, and hair tattoos are no different. We’ve put together our recommendations based on best practice and industry-leading training. Getting you the results you want is our goal, and aftercare plays a huge part in keeping your scalp micropigmentation looking good.

Most of our clients find they need two or three sessions to get the transformation they’ve had their eye on. Taking care of your scalp before your treatment and between sessions will help you look your best and get the most out of your treatment.

Here are some do’s and don’ts

1. Pre treatment

It’s best to moisturise the area twice a day for 3 days before treatment. Any unscented moisturiser will do, but we recommend Cerave or Bepanthen. Properly moisturised skin takes ink better, so this can make all the difference.
The day before treatment you’ll need to shave your hair down to at least a #1. Doing it the day before prevents additional redness and irritation.
Avoid any blood thinners 24 hours before your appointment time. The more you bleed, the less ink your skin will retain. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and any non-necessary blood thinning medications.
You’ll need to give us a clear idea of the hairline you want. Please save pictures on your phone of hairlines you like, or a picture of your own hairline when you were happier with it.
Remember, this is a tattoo! Make sure you eat and drink before your appointment, and bring some snacks and sugary drinks to keep your blood sugar stable. We do have these in the studio too, though.

2. The week after treatment

Avoid sweating for 4 days after treatment, it can irritate your scalp. No gyms or saunas!
Try to keep your scalp dry for 4 days after treatment. Redness and itching is perfectly normal, and you can wear a hat if you like. Just make sure it’s loose and doesn’t irritate the scalp.
After 2 days start moisturising your scalp again, until there are no more tiny scabs. At least twice a day is recommended, but as often as you feel it’s needed. Bepanthen or Cerave are best, but any unscented moisturiser will do the job.
After 4 or 5 days, wash your scalp gently with warm, soapy water. Avoid anti-dandruff shampoos or anything with strong chemicals, including hair growth products, for at least 10 days.
You can drink, take any medications and have caffeine immediately after your treatment.

3. 10+ days after treatment

Avoid swimming pools, saunas and tanning beds 30 days after treatment.
Always wear factor 50 SPF on your scalp to prevent your scalp micropigmentation fading in the sun.
